The total number
of outstanding shares available to the public for buying. This is the number of freely traded shares in the hands of the
public. Float is calculated as Shares Outstanding minus Shares Owned by Insiders,
5% Owners, and Rule 144 Shares.

company may have 10 million outstanding shares but only 7 million
are trading on the stock market...7 million would be the floatation.
Stocks with small floats (under 3 million shares) tend to be a lot
more volatile than others. |
